March 30, 2017 · Denver, Colorado

From schools and healthcare to safety and identification, issues affecting transgender people are in the news every day.

Many transgender people struggle with expressing themselves as their true selves. One major hurdle in a successful gender transition is the individual’s voice, which does not easily express their gender identity without adequate, professional training.

Kathe Perez, of Exceptional Voice, Inc., with co-creator Annika Kappenstein offer the solution in an iOS app called Eva (Exceptional Voice App). Eva is a unique interactive voice-coaching program, and has been created for both transgender women (EvaF) and transgender men (EvaM). Luna, our new team member, is a three-time startup CTO and entrepreneur, and has been developing iOS apps for nearly a decade.

Eva’s unique voice training methodology consists of video-based instruction and practice, as well as several targeted self-guided exercises per lesson that use specifically designed visual tools to translate the individual’s voice output into an easily recognizable representation on the mobile screen. A series of visually interactive tools provide the user with a straightforward and playful learning experience.

Currently, Eva has over 10,000 users in more than 30 countries.

Eva consists of two iOS apps–EvaF for trans women wanting to feminize their voices and EvaM, our trans masculine voice program.

Eva’s Brand Ambassador program is designed to make the best use of our existing fans in order to spread the word about this life-enhancing program.

Kathe Perez,
Co-founder, Eva
Denver, Colorado
info@exceptionalvoiceapp.com
www.exceptionalvoiceapp.com

Eva FAQ with Kathe & Annika

Team Eva has been working long and hard over the past few years.

Kathe and Annika update Eva users on the currently development progress, bugs, tools and more.

After a development slow-down, we're working long hours to complete, Eva (Exceptional Voice App), our voice training mobile app for transgender people.

Eva provides trans feminine users with a free sample lesson so that those trans woman new to Eva can experience the program before purchasing it.

We're also excited to provide a free frequency tuner created just for Eva. We’re currently working on one of Eva’s real-time voice analysis tools, our groundbreaking resonance analyzer, which will allow you to shift resonant frequencies (the overtones) to shape your voice. The other tools that are already available are: pitch tuner, pitch tracker, Metronome (for pacing your speech) and a voice recorder to keep track of your progress.

Eva F’s voice training program (when complete) will consist of three courses:

1. Voice Feminization Fundamentals– for transgender women who are just beginning to transform their voices.

2. Beyond the Fundamentals– for women who already have some voice training experience.

3. Mastery of Your Feminine Voice– for women who feel confident in the skills they have developed, and want high-level advanced techniques to maintain their feminine voices.

Currently the Voice Feminization Fundamentals is 50% complete. The lessons are available as in-app purchases. More lessons are being added constantly, and you will receive a push notification (if enabled) about new releases.

EvaM, our trans masculine voice-training app is also about 50% complete. When complete, there will be one course ("Trans Masculine Voice" consisting of 10 lessons. Supplemental lessons will be created as needed.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR iPhone 6S and 6S+ Users:

There is a known audio issue with iPhone 6S and 6S+ that causes a crash when working with the exercises *after* playing the audio cue for that exercise (Listen To Pitch). This also includes playing the videos. We are working with our development team to provide a fix for this issue as soon as possible.

In the meantime, to use one of the tools or exercises *after* playing back audio or watching a video, you can restart the app and return directly to the exercise, without using the “Listen to Pitch” button. We apologize for the inconvenience that results from this issue and workaround. We are sincerely working hard on your behalf to deliver the best learning experience with Eva 2.3.

We believe in you!

Kathe & Annika
www.exceptionalvoiceapp.com

866.4.my.voice
info@exceptionalvoiceapp.com

Namoli Brennet at Keystone Conference in Harrisburg, PA 2012

Tucson-based songwriter Namoli Brennet has been touring the country with her own brand of moody and inspiring folk since releasing her first CD in 2002. Since then she's played over 900 shows and logged over 250,000 miles on her still-running 87 Volvo station wagon. ("I have a great mechanic", she says.) Touching on often poignant themes, her music and lyrics ultimately paint a vivid and redemptive portrait. She's a breathtaking and moving performer, and her sweet, road-weary voice is as quick to deliver her wit and humor as it is a turn of phrase. She's been described as a cross between Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin and Sheryl Crow, and Zocalo magazine called her music, "Gorgeous and introspective."

Brennet was given her first guitar at age 8, and after picking it up quickly the ADD songstress started playing drums, piano and saxophone. By the time she graduated from college with a degree in music composition she was waiting tables while writing songs on the side and playing in bar bands. She didn't start singing until her 20s, because, as she says, "I was surrounded by golden-throated sisters and wasn't really considered the singer in my family. My voice was always...different."

Although she's a little shy and reluctant to talk about it, Brennet also carries another secret: she was not born female. "I transitioned in my late 20s because I had just reached this state of unhappiness that was pretty unbearable." And athough the themes of identity and freedom weave their way subtly through her songs, being transgender is not the focus of her music: "I know it's kind of a quirky and interesting part of my story, but as a human being I'm interested in life, spirituality, meaning, social issues, justice, compassion...and these are the things I write about."

Namoli is currently working on her 9th self-released CD, Rise, which is scheduled for an October release on Flaming Dame records. You'll often find this prodigious musician in the studio dividing her time between engineering, producing and playing most if not all of the instruments on her recordings. She's also recorded and produced CDs for other artists, most notably Eric Himan's 2011 release, Supposed Unknown, which is currently being featured on Sirius XM radio.

A 4-time Outmusic award nominee, Namoli has also won the Tucson Folk Festival Songwriting Award and was a finalist in the ISC songwriting competition. Her recent release 'Black Crow' garnered critical acclaim and was named one of KXCI FM's top albums of 2010. Her music has been featured on NPR, PBS and in films including the Emmy-award winning documentary "Out in the Silence", which details the struggle of a gay teen growing up in rural Pennsylvania.
As you will hear, Alex discovered his true self and his true voice over a period of deep inner exploration.

I continue to get more and more emails and phone calls from you transgender men about your voices. I'm thrilled that Alex has agreed to be my voice model to demonstrate specific exercises that'll help you.

Feel free to share your thoughts, your concerns and what you need.
Be Yourself Project: Keira

We asked people to answer one of the three pillars of the Be Yourself Movement.

1. I Inspire: Who in your life, or what circumstances of your life provided the inspiration, or the spark for you to take the first step in your journey to Be Yourself.
2. I Believe: Who believed in you! Who was there to shine the light on your path to help you find the courage to Be Yourself?
3. I Support: Who in your life was, or is, the wind beneath your wings to provide the support you needed to face the truth about yourself and find the courage to transition?

It is my sincere desire for these stories to help you feel a part of something bigger than yourself and to feel inspired and supported.

Thank you Keira for sharing your courage, strength and hope.

Believing in you,
