Chats with Kathe is a video series, which provides transgender people with a platform to share their stories.
Annika holds an MFA in Communication Design from the Braunschweig University of Art in Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1998, living first in New York City then moving “down South” to Atlanta. Annika has worked for two of the world’s largest brand-consulting firms, Interbrand and Landor Associates, as well as numerous small marketing communication firms and design studios, before founding her own design firm, Amala Design Group. Her specialties include brand strategy, visual identity systems, UI/UX design, typography and print collateral.
Besides her Graphic Design business, Annika teaches typography and typeface design at the Atlanta design and advertising school Portfolio Center. She is also a registered yoga instructor and member of Kashi Atlanta Urban Ashram, where she teaches and studies classical yoga, including pranayama and meditation. She lives “out and proud” as transgender and is active in the trans community. She offers a monthly Trans & Queer Yoga class and support group at Kashi Atlanta.
In 2010, Annika was enrolled in the 120-Day Challenge course from Exceptional Voice. With her experience in mobile app design, her interest was sparked about the possibility of translating the unique and effective training methodology that Kathe Perez had developed for her transgender clients into the interactive learning environment of a mobile app. In 2011 she partnered with Kathe Perez to co-create Eva, the first voice training mobile app for transgender people.
