Chats with Kathe is a video series, which provides transgender people with a platform to share their stories.

Veronika, a 42-year-old transgender woman, began her transition at the age of 38. She manages a global team that designs and maintains high graphic virtualization clouds for a worldwide semiconductor company.

A long-time ally and advocate for the transgender community, Veronika believes that identifying obstacles, then addressing each one effectively, leads to a successful transition. It is important transgender people are aligned with who they are. To that end, she cofounded the Transgender National Alliance (March of 2015), and in January of 2016, she founded the American Foundation for Transgender Excellence and Recognition (AFTER).

Veronika identifies as a binary trans woman and observes that a vastly overlooked obstacle for trans women is their voice. She says, “Voice has become one of my tools as I navigate the world; and that during my transition, if I felt like people were questioning my gender, I would use my voice to remove any doubt.” While the effort and patience required to train the voice to reach the range of a cisgender woman, is great, she says that her voice has contributed to a very smooth transition at work. Much of her workday is spent in conference calls, and the ability to confidently express herself in her femaleness, has had a huge impact on her career and is one of the reason for her success.
